Mahinda Rajapakse re-elected as President of Sri Lanka in the last election

Mahinda RajapakseMahinda Rajapakse re-elected as President of Sri Lanka in the last election, Wednesday, by a vote of 57.9 percent. He defeated former army commander Sarath Fonseka.”President Mahinda Rajapakse is the winner,” said a member of the Electoral Commission, Dayananda Dissanayake, when the election results were announced Wednesday night. He said, Rajapakse got 6.01 million votes, or 1.84 million more votes than his rival, Fonseka.

In early vote counting after the election, Rajapakse was always superior. Before the announcement came out, people have filled the streets and set fire to fireworks and waving flags and posters of Sri Lanka to celebrate the victory Rajapaksa Rajapakse.

The President had now had to rebuild Sri Lanka after last year’s success defeating the Tamil Tigers separatist movement which ripped a 25-year-oyak country. “Rajapaksa has achieved resounding historic wining and in an election free and fair for the first time held in this country since the defeat of terrorism,” said Lucien Rajakarunanayake, a spokesman for Rajapakse.Meanwhile, Sarath Fonseka has declared rejected the election results.
