“When Joshua near Jericho, he cast a vision …”
Joshua 5:13 a
What Joshua was doing, looked up at Jericho? What was there in his mind at that time? He knew God was giving a mission for him. “We have arrived here. This is an enemy we must destroy, began here.” Jericho is like our nature often fall into sin. He is strong, and should be destroyed. How do we see Jericho? Are we examined from a distance, thinking about how to beat him? Or are we stuck in Jericho pleasures, living according to the flesh, our feelings with fun movies and music, took satisfaction in materialistic ways, and laughing because of gossip and words are mortal?
There is no encouragement in the mission of such a lifestyle. There is no necessity to conquer. Jericho was not examined, but live in it. As a Christian, we have left Egypt. We have been justified by faith and was baptized. Blood of Christ to cleanse us from sin. We enjoy the blessings of God, spiritually and physically. Maybe we thought that was it: “I’m saved!”
However, across the river Jordan is not the end of the game, but before beginning. Perhaps in our hearts there is still overgrown stretch of land that desires a close embedded sin, we have yet to uproot. Do we feel the urge mission and urgency to act, such as the perceived Joshua, face full of war and difficult challenges in front of the eyes? Do we cross the river Jordan by fully armed and ready to fight? (Joshua 4:12, 13)
he saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked him: “Kawankah you or foe?” He replied: “No, but I am the Army Commander of the LORD. Now I come.” Then Joshua fell down with his face to the ground, worship, and said to him: “What is going to say this my lord to his servant?” Commander of the Army and the LORD said to Joshua: “Loose thy shoe from off thy foot, for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Yos. 5:13 b-15
Joshua specifically to meet with God. He can stand on holy ground.
How our mindset? Are we stood at a distance outside the walls of Jericho, looking at him with full purpose of, or we stand in it, enjoying the illusion of security and pleasure? Where we stand, determine whether we meet with God or not. It also determines whether we’re on his side or not. It also determines whether we are standing on holy ground.
Where do we stand?
Reflection:
Do you feel the urge God’s mission and urgency to deal with spiritual warfare in front of you?
